European Cultural History of the Modern Era - Prof. Dr. Andreas Bähr

Professor of European Cultural History of the Modern Era

Prof. Dr. Andreas Bähr

What we ask when we study the cultural history of modern Europe:

  • We ask about the history of Europe between early expansion and the First World War.
  • We ask about a time that has often become strange and incomprehensible - which is precisely why it wants to be rediscovered and deciphered.
  • We ask about imagined orders and their shattering: about orders of the political and social, about orders of religion and nature, about orders of time and about orders of the person.
  • We ask about the self-spun webs of meaning in which people think and act, and that also means: about the forms, transfer and change of knowledge.
  • We ask about the history of Social and Cultural Studies and the cultural history of modern Europe.
