Schön, Sarah-720x900
Doctoral Candidate

Sarah Schön started her research journey at the European University Viadrina with an B.A. in Cultural Sciences focusing on Linguistics and Cultural History. After completing the M.A. Linguistics at Freie Universität Berlin she came back to Viadrina for approaching her PhD within the field of multimodal metaphor and discourse analysis.

Within her PhD project she wants to continue her work on metaphoricity in discourses regarding sensitive topics in society. While focusing on death and dying in her M.A. thesis, the considered context of her dissertation will be mental health (disorders). By looking at multimodal metaphors in different text types discoursive structures and connected world views can be detected. Additionally, a historical perspective on the groundwork and development of existing metaphors, as well as related processes will be integrated. The aim of the work is to shed light on given discursive structures, their foundation and influence on perspectives within society, so that an outlook on possible positive directions regarding health communication can be given.

  • Qualitative Discourse analysis

  • Historical Linguistics / Linguistic Anthropology
