Gal Kirn is Assistant Professor and research leader of a project on transformation societies in the post-Yugoslav context at the Institute of Sociology at the University of Ljubljana. He is also active at the University of Southturn (Sweden) and was part of the international research group "Partisan Resistances" at the University of Grenoble. Kirn's research focuses on the theme of transition and transformation in a (post)socialist context, particularly in the fields of art, politics and memory during the period of national liberation struggles and socialist Yugoslavia. He has published two monographs, Partisan Ruptures (Pluto Press, 2019) and Partisan Counter-Archive (De Gruyter, 2020) and is co-editor (with Natasha Ginwala and Niloufar Tajeri) of the volume Nights of the Dispossessed: Riots Unbound (Columbia Press, 2021).

From 15 February to 15 May 2023, he was a visiting scholar at our professorship.
